What are LINK Groups?

How Important Are LINK groups?
We want LINK groups to become the hub of our ministry. They will be the place where the real ministry of the church takes place as we encourage, support, and challenge one another. God doesn't want any of us to be left to walk alone – we need each other. We want to be a church, not a crowd!

What Is a LINK Group?
LINK groups are designed to grow meaningful, intentional and significant relationships founded upon God’s Word. They are sermon based small groups, as opposed to book studies. They are a lecture-lab model using the Sunday sermon as the lecture, and the small group as a lab to learn to practically apply and live out Biblical truths. They are made up of 10-16 people who meet weekly to study, to share, and to support one another in their Christian lives. Each group is led by a trained leader and host couple. A typical meeting will last for an hour and a half, followed by light refreshments. Some groups may also choose to spend some time in worship.

How Long Does A Group Last?
Each LINK group session lasts 10 or 11 weeks. Basically, we've broken the year into 4 quarters or sessions. At the end of each quarter, you have the choice of staying in the same group, trying a new group, or even taking a break. Groups may stay together throughout the entire year. Groups do not meet mid June through August, though some may choose to continue meeting informally or socially through the summer.

What Is The Required Commitment?
Joining a LINK group requires a 10 to 11-week commitment to attend the weekly meetings and to do the homework ahead of time. Obviously, allowances are made for sickness, vacation, work conflicts, and other special events...but not much more! This commitment is the key to strong relationships and healthy groups. You become what you are committed to; if you are committed to seeing believers strengthened and growing in Christ, that is what you will become! Each group will also plan a quarterly social and a yearly service project.

What About Childcare?
LINK groups are designed for adults (Exceptions are made for nursing newborns - up to six months). We leave it up to each family to work out their own childcare. Sometimes it works best for families to share a sitter or to swap childcare with another family whose group meets on a different evening or time.

What Will We Study?
The studies are based on the previous weekend’s sermon. LINK groups are built upon a “Lecture - Lab” model. If you imagine the weekend sermon as a lecture on Christian living, then the group meeting is a lab where you get to roll up your sleeves and discuss how the sermon works out in real life.
Each week there will be a series of Bible passages and questions to study and complete before your meeting. The homework will be included in your bulletin and also available online. It will usually take 20 to 30 minutes to complete the homework. The messages are also available online if you miss church that week. They are posted immediately after the service.
Once you commit to a group, you are expected to attend and have your homework completed. This is a facilitator led time, so each participant needs to come prepared to add to the group time.

How Do I Sign Up?
Church wide sign-ups will be on September 16th. You may choose any group until it is full! Our pastors will be happy to help you find just the right group for you if you have any questions.

  • Fall session September 23rd to December 2nd
  • Winter session January 13th to March 17th
  • Spring session April 14th to June 16th

At the end of the quarter, you can choose to continue in your current group, find another group or take a break. We believe though that what we are committed to will determine what we will become. Therefore, we affirm that these groups should be a priority in all members’ lives.

When and Where Do These Groups Meet?
Our LINK groups meet on various days and nights of the week in homes throughout the community. And a few of them may meet at the church even though they are called “Home Fellowships!”
