Ephesians 4

Ephesians
Unity of the Spirit

Paul begins the practical section of this book—“so what now” is the question he is answering.  Because we are radically rescued by God not through our own selves, because He is making us a new 3rd race—the church, so now we have an obligation on how we are to live. He emphasized the need for us to get along, so will we?

Ephesians 3

Ephesians
Paul’s Prayer for the Church

After expanding on this great mystery called the church, Paul goes on to pray for the church.  His prayer is filled with hope and is often used in worship today.  Paul was not simply giving us a pattern prayer, but telling us the source of the joy in his own ministry.  He loved the church, willing even to die for her, will you?

Ephesians 3

Ephesians
The Mystery of the Church

Paul’s love for the church is the basis for the rest of this book.  Paul is obviously a leader and has a bias towards the church, but he wants the Ephesians to understand what a great mystery the church is. With all of its flaws and problems; the church is designed by God to bring His people into a new relationship with Him...

Easter
Life After the Resurrection

Despair turns to Joy, sorrow turns to happiness.  I don’t know if we can adequately describe the emotions of that first Easter morning.  What an emotional roller coaster the followers of Jesus had endured, yet when they awoke there was still great uncertainty.  Jesus gently opens their hearts to understand the great victory He had won…

Easter
Life Before the Resurrection

What were those hours and days like for Jesus family and friends before the resurrection? This is an important subject to consider because most of the world is living life before the resurrection. Yes the historical fact of the resurrection has already happened, but it means nothing to them personally…

Ephesians 2

Ephesians
A New Family

Paul’s focus is shifting from Who God is and What He has done to what He is doing now—building His church.  Three word pictures are used to describe what God is doing and they build on each other to magnify the special place we have in God’s heart…

Ephesians
From Enemies to Friends

We have seen that God is great and awesome with a plan of redemption for mankind.  Mankind is dead in sins and needs to be graciously saved; which God does through His son Jesus by Faith.  Man is made into a new creation; but for what purpose?  Too often we leave it here that God saves us and leaves us to our own devices; but Paul has a much grander idea that he now proclaims…

His Workmanship

What is the most creative thing you have done?  While we may not all have the same skills and abilities; God has made us unique and special with talents and abilities to make and create unique things.  This is part of His image within us; He Himself is “creative” by making and saving us…

Saved by Grace Through Faith

Some of the most famous verses in Ephesians are our focus this morning. What does it mean to be saved? We use terms like saved, born again, believer as code words to describe this new relationship. What do they mean and what part do we play in this eternal rescue?

Ephesians 2

Ephesians
Dead in Sins

The book of Ephesians turns from focusing on who God is to what God has done—saving us! Paul begins by reminding us how lost and desperate our situation is without God. We are dead, depraved and desperate; but God makes us alive, gives us His righteousness and hope! Are you still dead in your sins or alive in Christ?

Ephesians 1

Ephesians
Jesus, Head over all Things

Paul first prayer in this book culminates with a profound explanation of the person of Jesus and His authority/power over all things. This prayer is filled with elements that he will develop through the end of this book, but Paul ensures Jesus is rightfully worshiped and magnified in these words. We can lean much from these words about our magnificent God and savior, Jesus!

Ephesians 1

Prayer for Open Eyes

Paul long sentence about the truths of how blessed we are in God leads into the first of Paul’s prayers in this book. It is a long sentence and is filled with some very instructive nuggets about how our prayer life should be focused. There are no requests, no declarations for relief/release from adversity; but it is Christ centered and God glorifying. Are your prayers?

Ephesians 1

Ephesians
A Secured Future in Him

Paul concludes this long sentence with a shout of praise for a future that is filled with praise to God for His saving us. He speaks about the ministry of the Spirit and alludes to the mystery of the gospel uniting both Jewish and Gentile believers together in Christ.

Ephesians 1

Ephesians
Redeemed and Forgiven

As a result of God choosing us and as a part of Jesus work on our behalf; we are bought out of slavery and our debts are forgiven. While these facts are established in the death of Jesus; realistically they are more of a present concern to us. We all struggle not only with sin, but also the perception of being enslaved to a life of sin. We have been set free in Jesus and sin has no longer has rights of possession on us!

Ephesians 1

Ephesians
Elect in Him

One of the most controversial theological questions pertains to Election. Did we choose God or did He choose us or some combination of the two? Paul jumps right into the question with a song of praise for God’s choosing us. We are blessed beyond even our own understanding to think that God chose us before even creating us!
